SOMETIMES THE GOOD NEWS IS IN THE BAD NEWS

This week was wall-to-wall Trump. With the seriousness of multiple indictments, how could it not be? However besieged, Trump is bad news. But.

POLLS ARE SHIFTING ON TRUMP. It’s subtle, but while the Republican support for Trump is alarming given the seriousness of the accusations, the indictment is dividing Republicans. You win the debate when issues divide your opponent’s support and unite yours, says the New York Times. Here is the article that explains why.
It’s early days and the indictment is strong.

DOWN BALLOT CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATES ARE WORRIED says a GOP donor. “Instead of talking about jobs, inflation, and the debt, candidates are going to be drawn in and forced to be in that vortex that is Donald Trump.”

A DIFFERENT LENS ON JUDGE AILEEN CANNON. We’re concerned about Aileen Cannon, the judge who unsuccessfully threw sand in the gears of the Trump investigation earlier. Now she’s the lead judge in the Jack Smith indictment. This week we can’t know how it will go. Glass half empty? She’ll do it again and worse. Glass half full? She learned from her chastisement. Here is reason for calm from the New York Times. Remains to be seen. Here’s hoping.

JUDGE CANNON DOES NOT DRAG HER HEELS. In one of the first motions on Trump’s classified documents case, Judge Cannon has ordered a swift notice of compliance for security clearance for Trump lawyers. Read about it here.

NOT ABOUT TRUMP:

A DEMOCRAT IS BUILDING A STRONG CHALLENGE IN DEEPLY CONSERVATIVE MISSISSIPPI IN THE RACE FOR GOVERNOR. Keep an eye on this one. Brandon Presley is a distant cousin of Elvis, with charisma and a compelling story. It’s quite the horse race. Read about it here. Here’s hoping.

UKRAINE HAS STARTED ITS COUNTEROFFENSIVE. Here’s hoping.
